As our volunteer, you will get an opportunity to do something valuable for local communities, meet a team of lively and creative volunteers, as well as inspiring artists and special guests. Develop your variety of skills in project management, event organisation, marketing, arts and crafts, IT, communication and public speaking. If you not sure yet what or how would You like to get involved You can start as a supporting volunteering - supporting our events and other teams. This is a great role for new volunteers to explore, get to know the team and the way we run events or projects. It is also a perfect opportunity to find out what skills you have and in which areas you feel most passionate about and therefore what specific roles you would like to try in the future. Event assistants are responsible for a variety of tasks, including: welcoming guests, registration, meet and greet, set-up/close-down, catering etc.
You might want to take a leading role for some of our events and projects and apply to become a Project Manager. This could involve projects like: film and literature festivals, music, arts and crafts workshops, heritage and history projects, volunteer socials, workshops or training sessions and more! The role is usually attractive to the volunteers with a bit more experience and responsibilities as it may include managing a small team of other volunteers, liaising with partner organisations and individuals, arranging venues, implementing and evaluating the project etc. Merseyside Polonia appreciates that each volunteer brings new skills and perspectives to our work and we are always open to new ideas that improve our projects and events.
Perhaps you are a photographer-filmmaker who is looking to build up its portfolio? Would you like to try to expand your skills and knowledge in marketing and promotion of the events? If so then this role will be perfect for you. You will be working in a team of creative individuals and spread the word about Merseyside Polonia our events and projects. This role is also great for anyone who would like to get back to their profession and improve their employability by volunteering their time with us. Roles include:
Social Media Volunteers
You will provide social media support and develop our Social Media strategy improving conscious social branding of the organisation and the traffic: writing and posting content on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, LinkedIn
As a web developer volunteer, you will assist with website actualisation, maintenance, and building new content. The ideal candidate should be comfortable to use Wordpress, CSS, PHP, Version control system - Git and Linux/Unix, however, what really matters is your enthusiasm for learning new skills (necessary training will be provided).
You will be responsible for taking pictures/making videos, editing photos/videos, creating photo galleries on the website and social media. Great opportunity for building up your portfolio.
Movie editing Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers with video and photo editing skills. You will be editing videos from our past events and adding them to our official Youtube channel.
A role for someone who has some experience in fundraising or would like to learn more about it to support the funding and fundraising team.
Interpreter and translator
If you are looking for gaining experience in translating and interpreting or want to build your confidence as a future translator or content marketer. Come and join the team. You will have plenty of opportunities from translating marketing materials (press releases, blog or social media posts) to simultaneous interpretation on our events. You'll have a chance to interpret on high profile events with government representatives. Native command of Polish and excellent knowledge of English is essential
You can join as a support volunteer and assist in our office work, by helping with administrative tasks, as well as having an opportunity to find out more about volunteer coordination, finance and funding processes. We also welcome experienced fundraisers and individuals that can contribute to the development of Merseyside Polonia's business or financial strategy.
Merseyside Polonia appreciates that everyone has a different lifestyle and can contribute time according to their commitments, however, we do ask all our volunteers to commit to a set amount of time when volunteering with us and ask for regular attendance to meetings when possible. This is crucial as it allows us to effectively plan our work and maintain continuity and stability of our organisation.
There is plenty of training opportunities and knowledge share for our volunteers. Please see below some examples of training you might receive:
- Induction training (introduction to the organisation, our volunteer handbook, policies).
- Basic Training (Health and Safety, Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding).
- Specific Training on Merseyside Polonia Roles.
- Marketing Training (e.g. Professional Press Release Writing).
- Website Updates.
- Project Management.
- Networking and Partnerships with other Organisations.
- Presentations skills.
If there is any training that our volunteers are particularly interested in, we can try to organise it internally or find external providers that we can then arrange it with on behalf of the volunteers. Furthermore, we receive regular information about ongoing training opportunities both locally and abroad (e.g. in Poland).
